The Nasarawa State chapter of Motorcycle Transport Union of Nigeria (MTUN) has promised to partner the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to tackle motorcycle related crashes in the state.
Kawo Muhammad-Mahmud, Chairman of the union made the pledge at a mega rally organised to sentise their members by the FRSC at the Old Lafia Motor Park yesterday in Lafia.
The chairman appreciated Corps Commander Lucia Samuel-Mhii, Sector Commander of FRSC for the timely initiative and pledged to collaborate with the command to disseminate the safety message across their members.
He also promised to set up machinery in place across the state to sensitise their members on the need to adhere strictly to traffic rules and avoid reckless riding in their best interest.
He added that they would also set up a team to sanction any member caught riding recklessly and disobeying traffic rules deliberately.
On her part, Corps Commander Lucia Samuel-Mhii, Nasarawa State Sector Commander of FRSC highlighted the imperative of sensitizing motorcycle riders to prioritize safety and adhere to safety protocols.
She emphasized the dangers of taking hard substances before and while riding as well as riding against traffic light and personnel directives.
“It is important for every road user including motorcyclists whether private of commercial to adhere to traffic lights signs,” she added.
Samuel-Mhii also urged the union to ensure that their members obtain riders’ licenses, proper number plates registration and wear safety helmets while riding to reduce impact in case of crashes.
