Minimum Wage: Cleric cautions Nigerian governors against worsening workers conditions
By; Niyi Ogungbola, Abeokuta.
A Bishop – Elect of The Rivers of Life Prophetic and Miracle Cathedral, Olusola Ladega has warned the 36 state governors in Nigeria to desist from their plans to slash the N18, 000 minimum wage being paid to workers in the country.
Ladega, who spoke with journalists in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital emphasised that the planned reduction of the minimum wage of N18, 000 would further worsen the living conditions of Nigerian workers if implemented.
The newly elevated Bishop, who was fielding questions from journalists during the ordination of 20 Deacons and Deaconesses of the church in Abeokuta, argued that the claim by the governors that they could no longer pay the N18, 000 minimum wage was not tenable.
New Nigerian recalled that all the 36 Nigerian state governors had last week in Abuja, declared that they could no longer sustain the payment of the N18, 000 minimum wage owing to the prevailing economic situation in the country.
But the cleric noted that the current economic doldrums in the country was borne out of the mismanagement of the nation’s economy by those elected to administer the affairs of the country and not the Nigerian workers.
“What is happening in our nation today, I think is some kind of mismanagement. It’s not because the fund is not there but the management is not good enough and that is why we are having the problems we are having now.
“In our nation today, the people in governance are more self-centred and that is why things are going the way they are going now”.
The cleric however charged the state governors to handle the issue of the minimum wage with the fear of God, stressing that if they are committed with the fear of God, “things would be better in our nation”.
Ladega also warned those making life unbearable for Nigerians to desist or risk the wrath of God.
“They should know that nemesis would catch up with them. The Bible says God does not want the death of the sinner but to repent. But if they refuse to repent, the judgement of God will come upon them. If they know what they are doing is not right and they still continue to do it, a day is coming when God shall rise against them.
“They should know that a day is coming when God will fight the battle for Nigerians, those who are sitting upon the wealth of Nigerians, those who are making the common man to suffer, they should know that a day is coming when God would rise against them and bring their work to an end.
“A divine revolution will happen in our nation one day and I know God will take charge and the right people will take over government and Nigeria will be a better country. Those that misappropriated our fund, I know a day is coming when God will fight our battle,” the cleric said.
