It was confusion galore at the venue of the Oyo State Chapter of the All Progressive Congress (APC) State congress at the Liberty stadium in Ibadan following abrupt called off of the congress.
New Nigerian learnt that state congress was hurriedly postponed following alleged discovery of discrepancies in the delegates lists for the state congress.
Out going Oyo APC Caretaker Committee spokesperson, Dr Azeez Olatunde while speaking on the sudden put off of the state congress said the postponement was a directive from the APC National Secretariat.
Dr Olatunde stressed that the party will reach out to the National Secretariat for a new date that the congress would hold, saying, ” the congress has been postponed and we have to get another day for the congress from the National executive of the party”
“There are some people that suppose to do screening of the aspirants and have not concluded the process, and after that, we have to also get all the zones into agreement to go to their area and tell them about the consesus arrangements”, he said
Dr Olatunde added, ” the Chairmanship position that was zoned to Oke-Ogun 1, up till this morning, Oke-Ogun 1 people are yet to resolved on who to filled for the post. We will get back to the National Secretariat on a new date for the congress.”
However, there were mixed reactions over the postponement as supporters of APC gladiators stayed glued at the venue despite the announcement that it has been postponed singing and chanting the praises of their preferred candidates.
The supporters dressed in uniforms turned the venue to carnival like rally displaying posters, placards of their candidates with various designs of uniform indicating their support for the aspirants.
Speaking with journalists at the venue of the aborted state Congress, a Chairmanship aspirant of the party, Alhaji Abu Gbadamosi said he is ready to abide by the party position if the congress is actually postponed, and that the rules and regulations of the party is supremacy and final.
Alhaji Gbadamosi then charged members of the party to be patient and endure for the party to reach it’s destination in 2023
