Professor William  Nuhu Ogala of the Paediatrics Department Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital, Shika Zaria has called for the revert to proper monthly Hospital Clinical Meeting as it was in the early stage of the Hospital development.
He made the call in his paper presentation Titled “The Role of ABUTH in HealthCare Delivery in Nigeria” during 49years of service to humanity and ABUTH Day Celebration held at the Auditorium hall of the Hospital.
Ogala also recommended that attendance should be made compulsory to all consultants and properly coordinated under a Chairman who should be senior academic staff and should properly encompass service, training and even research.
The Professor of paediatrics suggested that joint weekly grand clinical ward round by the Departments of Medicine and Paediatrics should be resuscitated which he said is the best clinical activities of the hospital while suggesting that, the surgical and Anaesthesia Departments should establish their own joint ward round.

“These joint ward rounds or meetings should hold weekly and morale-boosting ABUTH’s practice of sponsoring all cadres of staff to attend refresher courses, seminars, workshop, updates and the likes should continue at all costs.”

In order to improve the ABUTH services, professor Ogala encourage the management to immediately resuscitate the following committees or working groups and recommisison them to commence work; the committees are, cardiothoracic, Renal transplant, Endoscopy, Cleft-lip restorative and invitro fertilization and embryo transfer.

According to Professor Ogala, even though by all standards, ABUTH has done excellently well on service provision, there are areas where he thought they ought to be masters such as in cardiac surgery but it is not.

ABUTH Zaria has lived up to expectation, but still there is much need and room for further development, he added.
