Mdzough U Tiv, Kaduna State Chapter, has condemned in strong terms the activities of the Nigeria Police as it relates to the political situation in Benue State.

A statement from Shimakyaa Iorkyase, President-General, Mdzough U Tiv Kaduna State Chapter, observed that politicians have the right to defect to any political party of their choice, adding that it should be done in the spirit of sportsmanship.

His words, “While we cannot comment on the circumstances that led to the impeachment of Rt. Hon. Terkimbi Ikyange as the Speaker, Benue State House of Assembly (Because the details at our disposal are sketchy) we cannot but frown at the hasty manner in which Rt. Hon. Terkimbi and seven others purportedly claimed to have initiated an impeachment process against His Excellency, Dr Samuel Ortom.

“Politicians and political actors have the right to defect to any political party of their choice with a view to ensuring that their interests are protected, we feel this should be done in the spirit of sportsmanship without animosity.

“We also condemn in very strongest term the activities of the Nigeria Police as it relates to Benue.

“The speech of the IGP during the peak of Benue killing aggravated the situation. We have watched with disdain how tear gas was freely used on harmless majority members of the Benue State House of Assembly.

“We cannot also imagine how Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, the National Chairman of APC will be speaking with both sides of his mouth vis-à-vis Benue Politics.

“While we leave Comrade Adams to history, we feel and strongly too that a bedbug cannot enter your bed if there is no crack or hole.

“We appreciate that His Excellences Senator George Akume and Dr Samuel Ortom may not be toeing the same political line now, we advise them and their supporters to shield their sword for the protection and benefit of Benue Citizens cum our ancestral land.

“We cannot allow Politics of bitterness to exist in Tiv land and Benue State in this 21st century.”

The forum called on the President-General, Mdzough U Tiv Worldwide, Chief Engr. Edward Ujege, His Royal Majesty, Orcivirigh Chief Prof James Ayatse, Tor Tiv V to weigh into this crisis before our enemies  take advantage of the crack in the land.

“As always, while the Politicians pursue their respective political interests, the overall interest of the Tiv nation – protecting lives and preserving our ancestral land should be very paramount,” the statement observed.
