As part of activities to mark the 2022 Workers Day, the Trade Union Council (TUC) has listed interventions its members have benefitted from, while decrying increasing spate of insecurity nationwide.

Chairman of TUC Kaduna State, Comrade Abdullahi A Danfulani while briefing the press at its state secretariat on Sunday, lamented the challenges Nigerians are facing, following violent crimes.
He lamented that banditry, kidnapping, cattle rustling and other criminal activities are giving Nigerians sleepless nights, tasking the government to find lasting solution.
According to him, following the outbreak of COVID-19, the congress has always marked the Workers Day on a low key, with the 2022 edition marked same way
He recalled that Workers Day was first marked in 1980 in Kano State, when the Executive Governor, was late Alhaji Abubakar Rimii and since then, it has been marked annually on May 1, which informed the press briefing.

According to him, other activities organised by TUC to mark the day, include Juma’at Mosque prayers on Friday April 29 and church prayers on May 1.

On steps taken to cushion the economic realities  on its members, he said that they sought funds from the Federal Mortgage Bank of. NIgeria (FMBN) to help in securing housing to the tune of  N2bn.
He also listed other interventions like keying into the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Anchor Borrower Programme for farming for its members.

“We are getting soft loans from workers to start small business around houses that won’t affect their work,” he added.
Commenting on a question of non payment of some Kaduna State primary school teachers, he explained that,  “previously, we had NUT, but today, we have over ten seperate unions that broke away, we also have teachers on payroll of state government, where we have issues, we follow it up,” he assured.
