The acting Governor of Kaduna State, Dr. Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe has said that by the end of first quarter 2022, they should be able to have 70 per cent of population of the state been vaccinated.
“The state government’s target is to have everyone within 18 years to have the vaccine in order to protect the people in the state,” she said, adding that prevention is better than cure.
Dr. Hadiza Balarabe expressed this on Thursday while flagging off the scale-up of mass COVID-19 vaccination in Kaduna State which was held at Magajin Gari office of the Kaduna North Local Government Council.
She spoke on the efforts of the state government to ensure that the citizens don’t get the virus of Omicron variant, according to her, which is a mutation of what already exists.
“It is not new but it has changed from what we used to know before from the Delta variant to Omicron.
“However, presently, in Nigeria our cases are not up to ten as it is now, but the thing is, in the prevention, there are no specifics with what we have been doing before. We need to continue with the forward campaign as it has been enumerated right from the beginning.
“We need to wear our facemasks, we need to observe physical distances, we need to wash our hands regularly, we need to avoid crowd, we need to exercise, this are the things we still need to continue to do to avoid Omicron,* she said.
Speaking on people’s response to vaccination, she said the state government is encouraging citizens to come out and be vaccinated.
“we’re not really forcing people we have been giving out messages on the value and benefits of vaccination,” she said.
