Masari advocates Prison decongestion

Governor Aminu Bello Masari has urged the Nigeria Prison to engage the society in an effort to address congestion in prisons.
The Governor made the call when he received the newly posted Comptroller of Prison, Kabir Umar Funtua on a courtesy visit.
According to him, workshops and sensitization of public is needed as the number of those awaiting trial keeps rising in prisons across the country.
Also a synergy would be evolved between the Prison Service, Police, Media and Judiciary to work on the issues of prisons decongestion and those waiting for trial, he added.
He noted that prison development in the country failed to consider population growth.
The Governor promised to address some of the request made by the new Comptroller in the state to improve service delivery.
The new State Comptroller said the command is proud of the Governor’s magnanimity since he assumed leadership of the state.
According to him, the Governor had been up and running in provision of drugs to the inmates such as provision of beddings, repairs of vehicles used to convey inmates and decongestion of the prisons, allocation of land for new yard among others.
He however requested for additional logistics such as mats, utensils, workshop among others.
In the meantime Governor Aminu Bello Masari has received on courtesy visit the groups of youths led by popular comedian Yusif Haruna known as Baban Cinedu.
Speaking during the visit Governor Aminu Bello Masari urged youths in Funtua town to be at the vanguard of and be good ambassadors of their communities.
The Governor also urged them to utilize their energy and time in earning a living through legal means.
He disclosed that the current administration resolve to create job opportunities to them through empowerment programmes and investment from foreign bodies.
The Governor acknowledged the contributions of the youths in the emergence of the current administration. He assured that their efforts would not end in futility.
Earlier, the leader of the youths group Yusif Haruna aka Baban Chinedu, said the visit was to bridge communication gap between them and the government.
He assured of continued support to all APC led Government in view of its resolve to improve on the well being of people.
