The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Nasarawa State is on the trail of a middle-aged man, Haruna Abdulkadir, from Daddare, Obi Local Government Area, for allegedly defiling a 13-year-old girl in the area.
The Commandant of the corps, Mohammed Mahmoud-Fari, told newsmen on Monday in Lafia that the suspect, currently at large, had on January 20, allegedly defiled the minor and fled the community.
According Mahmoud-Fari, when the news broke of the defilement, family and relatives of the victim went in search of the suspect and in the process, an altercation ensued between them and friends of the suspect.
“Friends of the suspects inflicted bodily harm on the relatives of the victims and were arrested by the NSCDC following the report of the incident,” he said.
He said preliminary investigation and medical observation of the victim revealed that there was penetration, saying, however, she tested negative to sexually transmitted infections.
Mahmoud-Fari said the command would not relent until the suspect was apprehended and brought to Justice in order to serve as deterrent to others.
The commandant also presented to newsmen 12 suspects arrested for various offences including theft, assault and conspiracy to purchase stolen properties.
He said all the suspects would be arraigned appropriately as soon investigation was concluded.
He warned those with criminal tendencies to desist or be ready to face the full wrath of the law.
