Man, 30, jailed 30 months for stealing electrical equipment

The Magistrate Court III sitting in Zuru, Kebbi State has sentenced one Aliyu Ayuba to a 30 months imprisonment for damaging and stealing power supply equipment belonging to Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company.
The presiding Magistrate, Senior Magistrate Grade I, Abdullahi Bala chided the convict for the crime which he described as unfortunate, stressing that both the Federal and State governments are doing everything possible to ensure that power supply was efficiently restored in Nigeria.
Earlier, the prosecuting Police Officer, Corporal Bulus Ibrahim, while presenting the First Investigation Report (FIR), informed the court that Aliyu Ayuba was charged with criminal conspiracy, mischief in relation to electricity and theft, offences contrary to, and punishable under sections 97, 334 and 288 of the penal code.
A statement from the Head, Corporate Communication of Kaduna Electric,  Abdulazeez Abdullahi and made available to newsmen in Kaduna Thursday, said the accused person admitted to committing the crimes and pleaded for the court’s leniency.
He was therefore tried and convicted and the Magistrate also directed the convict to pay thirty thousand naira (N30, 000:00) as compensation to the electricity Distribution Company for the damage done to its property.
The convict was however given an option of fine of ten thousand naira (N10, 000:00) for each of the offences.
Commenting on the matter, the Head, Corporate Communication of Kaduna Electric, Abdulazeez Abdullahi, hailed the judgement saying he hopes that it would deter others from committing the same crime.
