Residents of Makurdi, the Benue State capital have raised alarm over the increasing cases of burglary activities in different locations within the Makurdi metropolis.
New Nigerian Newspapers reliable gathered that numerous residents, particularly in the High Level, Wadata, and David Mark Bypass areas of Makurdi metropolis and Kanshio have complained about their homes being attacked in the night and during the day.
Recently, Ene Odoh, who lives at David Mark Bypass, said they returned from church Sunday, only to discover that that some criminals had gained access into the family house through the fence, and carted away valuable items including phones and laptops.
“They had scaled through our high fence; tore the mosquito nets on the windows and used some implements to widen the iron protectors to allow them passage. We were shocked to return home and find that all our communication gadgets had been taken away,” Odoh said.
Another victim, Nina Ternongo also narrated to NNN that her family members were fast asleep when their house situated at High Level was broken into and their phones carted away by the thieves.
She said, “Of recent, it had become rampart for residents in the High Level vicinity to go to bed and wake up in the morning to see their windows or doors tampered with by these thieves. It appears they pour some substances which put occupants to deeper sleep during which they search the house and take away phones as well as laptops.
“In our house, they took everyone’s phone kept in the parlour when they passed through the window into the house while we were sleeping. When we woke up to discover what had happened in the morning, our neighbours and everyone in the compound also raised the alarm that their phones were taken away too.”
Veronica Humphrey, who lives at Happy Home axis of High Level, complained bitterly that she returned from work to find that her window was tampered with and her sister’s handbag containing some personal belonging taken away by the thieves.
Most of the residents worried that the ill-situation was becoming a daily affair and needed the attention of security agencies to nib the trend in the bud.
When contacted, the State’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Catherine Anene, advised victims to report incidents to the Police, while assuring that the Command has the capacity to deal with the situation.
