The Interim Management Chairman, Mangu Local Government, Mr Titus Bise has appealed to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to ensure the availability and affordability of the speed limit device to motorists before its implementation dateline of October 1st, 2016.
Bise made the appealed during a public enlightenment rally tagged “Kill the Speed with Speed Limiter’’ held in Mangu Council Secretariat.
“I believe that the availability and affordability of the speed limiter to commercial vehicle operators and others will be key to its implementation.’’
“The concept of FRSC will go a long way in reducing the high death toll associated with road crashes on our highways and save the lives of innocent commuters, who are always victims of reckless driving by reckless drivers,’’ he asserted.
Earlier, the Unit Commander, FRSC RS4.12 Command, Pankshin, Mr Nnamdi Ikeh- Akabogu, tasked motorists on obtaining and installing speed limiter before the October dateline to avoid facing any penalty.
“There is no going back on the October 1 deadline for the enforcement of speed limiter.’’
Akabogu explained that because of the importance the Corps attached to the usage of the device by commercial vehicle operators and other motorists, it has embarked on intensive public enlightenment campaign to sensitise the public.
“FRSC will no longer condone the reckless killing and loss of precious lives on our highways. We will do all we could to stop such carnages as quick as possible.
“The general public should see the need to imbibe the use of the device in all commercial vehicles before the commencement date so as not to face arrest and prosecution by the Corps, ’’ he warned.
