The Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, has said that the life of a soldier is that of sacrifice to country, allegiance to defend and if need be, lay down their lives for the people they love and those they may not even admire.
General Lagbaja who was the Reviewing Officer and Special Guest of Honour, disclosed this at the Passing out Parade of the 85 Regular Recruit Intake at Depot Nigerian Army, Zaria, on Saturday.
He said the passing out of 5,937 recruits would bridge one of the gaps identified by the army in its fight to tame insecurity.
The Army boss said the recruits join a unique league of Nigerians who have elected to abide by the requirements of exceptional discipline, loyalty, integrity and dedication to duty, all of which are values that have guided their training.
He charged them not to disappoint the Nigerian Army and country’s expectations from them.
“The variety of threat they will be posted to manage on the field include insurgency in the North East, banditry and cattle rustling in the North West, farmers/ herders clashes in the North Central.Others are secessionist agitation and cultism in the South East, militancy and vandalism of national assets from the South South, to mention but a few.”
He assured that the Nigerian Army Headquarters would continue to support the training objectives of the institution through provision of adequate facility and equipment.
Gen. Lagbaja congratulated the new soldiers, the and tasked them to exhibit high sense of loyalty, professionalism and discipline to enable them to succeed.
