Chairman of the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC), Barrister Jide Ajeigbe has hinted that the commission will conduct “a free, fair and credible election into the 33 local councils in the state”.
According to a statement by the commission’s Press Officer, Mr Cosmas Olalekan Oni, Barrister Ajeigbe dropped this hint at the commencement of the commission’s OYSIEC advocacy visit to relevant stakeholders in the state.
Barrister Ajeigbe stressed that there will be no going back in the quest by the commission for a credible local government election in the state as OYSIEC is made up of people of impeccable character and integrity with a name to protect and that will not do anything capable of tarnishing their name.
“Conduct of election is a process with strict adherence to the provision contained in the laws that established the State Independent Electoral Commission. Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission is committed and ready to conduct a free, fair and credible election into the 33 local councils in the state,” he said.
Barrister Ajeigbe pointed out that “the conduct of any election, local government inclusive is not something that is jumped at” and that “the good thing about it is that the process has begun and will continue until the people of state are given a good and credible election that will be acceptable to all”.
“OYSIEC is independent, sincere and made up of people of impeccable character and integrity, who have a name to protect and will not do anything that would tarnish their image”.
He however asked the people of the state to have confidence in OYSIEC’s ability to conduct “a free, fair and credible election” whenever the council poll will hold across the state.
Barrister Ajeigbe maintained that the advocacy visit was to solicit the “support, cooperation and collaboration” of all the relevant stakeholders in the state for the conduct of credible election in the state.
