Lead prosecutor’s absence stalls Saraki’s CCT proceedings

As the cross examination of the exhibits tendered by EFCC witness, Michael Wetkas continued at the Code of Conduct Tribunal today, Federal Government’s lead prosecutor, Rotimi Jacobs failed to show up as scheduled thereby sstalling the continuation of the trial.
Paul Usoro during the cross examination, referenced exhibit 16 where the Senate President, Bukola Saraki was alleged to have received salaries as governor of the state between June 2011 and October 2013, which he said contravenes section 16a of the CCT act.
‎Usoro pointed out that Wetkas relied solely on the defendants account statement (which shows a transition. From Intercontinental bank to Access bank) ‎without carrying out sufficient investigation on any official of the Kwara State government.
After Paul Usoro’s submission, Rotimi Jacobs was conspicuously missing to react for proceedings to continue.
‎Rotimi had on Monday insisted that cross examination of the witness be concluded and pleaded with the court to adjourn to the next day to speed up the process but he however failed to show up.
‎”The c‎ross examination is taking so much time the witness (Michael Wetkas) has his life to live outside here, my lord I ask for your protection”. Rotimi stated while protesting against prolonged adjournment.
‎Due to his absence, the Chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal, Justice Danladi Umar was forced to adjourn the tribunal ‎proceedings to 11th January, 2017.
