An Akure based Activist lawyer, Morakinyo Ogele has berated members of the Ekiti State House of Assembly for allegedly looking the other way when the Constitution was being breached by the Executive.
In an open letter dated January 3rd, a copy of which was made available to reporters on Wednesday in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, Ogele expressed dismay that the lawmakers have “turned themselves to slave boys of Governor Ayo Fayose.”
He contended that the legislators has failed to act as checks and balances to the Executive and disappointed their constituents who elected them into office.
Ogele who is also the National Coordinator of Ekiti Redemption Group (ERG) said he was writing the letter as an indigene of the state and in public interest noting that the state legislature has been turned to a circus show rather than serious business of lawmaking.
The lawyer berated the Assembly for failing to hold Fayose accountable for how public funds are being spent and for allowing the governor to address them while wearing military camouflage.
The letter was titled: Re: Inability to Perform Your Primary Duties and Negligence of Your Constitutional Functions as Members of Ekiti State House of Assembly.”
He said: “Viewing your activities since you were sworn in as members of Ekiti State House of Assembly, you have neglected, failed and refused to perform your constitutional roles and duties for peace and good governance of Ekiti State.
“Without doubt, the Executive arm of Ekiti State government has been left ajar hence the governor has been daily breaching the Constitution he swore to protect with impunity.
“I started to wonder how the executive arm of government has been running the government with cocktail of unprecedented gross misconduct it hour constitutional check from the Assembly.”
