Lawmaker empowers women, youth with tools

A federal Lawmaker representing the Chanchaga Federal Constituency at the National Assembly from Niger State, Hon. Mohammed Umar Bago distributed empowerment materials worth millions of naira to women and youth.
The Lawmaker had for the 5th stream in sequence, doled out equipment and tools worth 250 millions naira for the empowerment of citizens from his constituency as part of his reach out and touch programme through his Foundation, the Bago Foundation.
The new dawn set on the lucky recipients on the first day of September when the House of Representatives member brought out the items which included 1000 units of Motorcycles, 250 units of Tricycles, 1000 units of Milling Engines, (grinding machines), 1000 units of Sewing Machines, 3000 pieces of Barbing Clippers for haircut and 1000 units of Power Generator sets worth 2 Million naira.
The donor said the items and equipment were meant to empower the recipients and enable them establish businesses that could add value to their lives and jump start the economy.
Hon. Umar Bago who also used the opportunity to commission his new constituency office, said his Foundation, the Bago Foundation had so far made five streams of donations of different empowerments equipment and tools.
He said the gesture was part of the fulfilment of his electioneering campaign promises to the electorate adding the aim was not just to provide succour but to empower the recipients and make them rejuvenate the economy by spinning the wheels of productivity in their respective ways.
He noted that the future of Nigeria with its array of budding youths who are largely unemployed was bleak unless well placed individuals and bodies assist in providing empowerment opportunities to them.
He pointed out that governments alone cannot create and provide jobs for millions of jobless youths who he argued must be productive in order to sustain themselves for the good of the country.
“This is the 5th stream of the Bago Foundation donation project and we have for distribution to lucky beneficiaries 1,000 Motorcycles, 250 Tricycles, 1,000 Grinding Machines, 1,000 Sewing Machines, 3,000 Barbing Clippers, 1,000 Generators”.
Hon. Bago enlisted the support of other well-meaning and well to do persons to assist in keeping the youths out of the streets and away from social vices and crimes.
Also in the pipeline for distribution are items such as 1,000 units of Deep Freezers, 1,000 units of Fridges, 1,000 units Carriage Motorbikes, 1,500 units of Vulcanizing Machines and 1,500 units of Water Pump Machines for irrigation farming. He expressed optimism that the items would go a long way in improving the lives of the beneficiaries.
He said his Foundation was dolling out the equipment and items in phases to ensure even spread and reach out. “Our intention is to reach the commonest person in our constituency and affect every life in the state as much as possible.”
Our correspondent observed that the beneficiaries included non indigenes who were part of the communities within the Chanchaga constituency. The donor urged them to put the equipment to use and earn a living with them.
The beneficiaries were drawn from wards within the constituency. They also include executives and members of the All Progressives Congress, (APC) in Chanchaga constituency, APC Campaign Coordinators, Women and Youths leaders who had earlier undergone skill acquisition training sponsored by the Bago Foundation.
The Foundation is collaborating with the Niger State Ministry of Agriculture and the National Directorate for Employment, NDE to spur youths to go into agricultural productivity.
One of them on behalf of the beneficiaries, Muka Fasasi thanked the Lawmaker for his gesture and called on other political office holders to emulate the Lawmaker who has been making sacrifices towards alleviating the sufferings of the people of his constituency by touching their lives.
Chairman of the ruling APC in the state, Engineer Jibril Imam in a remark, had commended the donor for the empowerment and called on other Lawmakers at both the state and National Assembly to emulate Hon. Bago in bringing the dividends of democracy to the electorate.
