Resident Doctors at the Ladoke Akintola University Teaching Hospital Ogbomoso on Saturday asked Oyo state government to stop paying them 50 percent salaries.
Speaking through their President, Dr Sebastine Oiwoh, the resident doctors alleged that Oyo state government has placed them on half salary payment since January this year while all other doctors and health workers in the Oyo state civil service are receiving full salary till date.
Dr Oiwoh pointed out that it would be unfair for Oyo state to have embark on paying only doctors and other staff of LAUTECH Teaching hospital Ogbomoso 50% of their salary after being owed for seven month.considering the fact that they rendered essential, specialist and patient-driven service in a majorly agrarian population.
He accused Oyo state government of allegedly mandating that the hospital’s management should pay the remaining 50% salary when the needed facilities, equipment and infrastructures have not been put in place in the hospital.
Speaking further, Dr Oiwoh declared that Oyo state government has reneged on its promise in the areas of funding, residency training, installation of essential equipment, delivery of equipment by contractors and completion of infrastructures to match the blue print of the hospital.
He stressed that the consequences of the payment of half salaries to them were numerous to bear and that no doubt it will also have negative implications on specialist training as well as cause dearth of specialists in the hospital.
The President LAUTECHTH Resident Doctors added that the university may in the nearest future not be able to train medical students  as it may likely lose its accreditation if the poor situation in the hospital is allowed to continue
The Resident Doctors while describing the payment of half to them  as unfair urged Governor  Abiola Ajimobi to look into the situation whereby they were being singled out for half salary amidst other health workers in the Oyo State civil service.
