Academic and Non Academic staff of the Oyo and Osun states owned Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, Oyo State, have threatened to resume their suspended strike.
Already, the workers under the auspices of Joint Action Congress comprising of the Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (SSANU), National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT) and the Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU), alerted that no fewer than 11 of their members have died of various illnesses due to their inability to afford  treatment.
Addressing newsmen in Ibadan through the SSANU Chairman Comrade Abimbola Alesinloye, the workers asked the owner states  to rise up to the financial crisis facing the University.
According to the SSANU Chairman, the situation in the Institution “is so pathetic now” and that it was sad that the students of the institution are now two sessions behind their mates which they matriculated in the same academic session are now writing their examination could be further drawn back in their academic if the workers should resume the suspended strike.
“The state governors of Oyo and Osun states have relented on their promises to fast track and augment their monthly subventions to the university. The Governing Council, since we suspended the strike, is yet to come up with any workable solution to shortage of fund in the university”he said.
Comrade Alesinloye added that “the university management has become evasive in attending to the requests of the unions and completely departed from collective agreement signed with the unions.”
He stressed that during the negotiations, Gov  Abiola Ajimobi “promised to address LAUTECH matter when the state gets the Paris fund” but that they had it “on good authority that LAUTECH has been deleted from the list”.
“The union is aware that both owner states did not place LAUTECH on the beneficiaries list of the first tranche of Paris Club Fund and is certain that LAUTECH has been deleted from the first and second list of beneficiaries of the second tranche. We are appealing to the good spirited people of Oyo and Osun states and the entire nation and the parents of our students that have connection with the state governors to intervene in the precarious situation of our university”.
He stressed that it was glaring that “another round of industrial action will further plummeted the already bad situation in the university”, saying “Our students by now are already two years behind their mates with whom they matriculated in the same academic session. The LAUTECH population is on the decline as a result of the last strike actions by the unions”.
Comrade Alesinloye said “therefore, the unions will not hesitate to resume their suspended industrial actions if the Visitors, the Governing Council no the University Management failed to be alive to their responsibilities to the university.”
