Lassa Fever: Bauchi Gov’s Wife tasks women on hygiene

The wife of the Bauchi State Governor, Hadiza Mohammed Abubakar, has urged women to keep their home clean to avoid food items and household utensils been contaminated by rat and other virus, which causes
Lassa Fever.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of second phase of Maternal Child Health Week (MNCHW) held at the Urban Maternity, Bauchi, Hadiza said that cleanness is the main key to live a healthy life.
She called on pregnant women to always go for antenatal in order to be taken care of well during their pregnancy so as to deliver safely, adding that they should always eat good food for the health of the baby.
The Governor’s wife explained that main areas of MNCHW intervention include, among others, Immunization, Malaria, Nutrition, Antenatal for pregnant women, family planning, Health Education, and HIV Counseling.
She said that Governor Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar is very much concerned about the health condition of mothers and children in Bauchi State, saying that this informed his launching of the routine immunization for children under age five.
According to her, reproductive health, maternal, new born and child care are top most health priority of the All Progressives Congress (APC) administration in the state.
She later donated drugs, mosquito nets for distribution to mothers and children
Chairman of Bauchi State Primary Health Care Agency, Pharmacist Adamu Ibrahim Gamawa, had in a welcome address said that MNCHW was an initiative of the Federal Ministry of Health, which started in March, 2008, informing that since then, the state has also been conducting it.
Gamawa explained that the programme was meant to reduce mortality and morbidity rate in women and children through the provision of assorted drugs, supplements and bridging the gap in immunization activities in the state.
He also disclosed that the agency has partnership with the UNICEF, MCSP, FHI-360, NPHCDA, CHAI, and WHO.
In her speech the state Commissioner for Women Affairs, Hajiya Asabe Hamma, called on women to keep their environment clean to prevent the spread of diseases.
