Plateau State Governor, Simon Bako Lalong arrived London Friday evening to attend the Global Disability Summit.
Lalong was invited by the British Government following his commitment to the cause of the disabled.
It would be recalled that Governor Lalong, as Speaker of the then Plateau State House of Assembly, ensured the passage of the first Disability Rights Law 2005, and subsequently pioneered the establishment of The Plateau State Disability Rights Commission when he assumed office as the Governor.
The only Governor to be invited from Nigeria, Lalong has been credited for appointing several Persons with Disabilities into his government.
The governor will also lobby the British Government for attention for Plateau in his bid to improve the quality of life of People with Disabilities.
The summit, which takes place at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in London, is built around major commitments to be made around four major themes namely; dignity and respect for all, inclusive education, economic empowerment and technology & innovation.
Lalong will also interact with the board and management of major global disability organizations to lobby for technical support and partnerships with the Plateau State Disability Rights Commission.
The Global Disability Summit will raise global attention and focus on a long-neglected area, mobilise new global and national commitments on disability and showcase good practice, innovation and evidence from across the world.
The outcome of the global summit will renew Plateau State’s Commitment to disability inclusive development.
