The 5th edition of the annual Lagos Private Muslim Schools Football Competition tagged “Hijrah Cup” has ended in Lagos with Anwar-Ul-Islam College Agege emerging winners in both the Junior and Senior categories.
In an entertaining finals decided at the Anwar-Ul-Islam College play ground, the host school defeated Ansar-Ud-Deen Grammar School, Surulere by 5-4 penalties to emerge winners in the junior category, while their senior counterparts recorded a 4-0 thrashing of Ansar-Ud-Deen Grammar School in a one-sided encounter to be crowned champions of the competition.
Organiser of the tournaments, Prince Adewale Atiba of Atico Global Concept Limited, told our correspondent that the competition which commenced five years ago to encourage healthy rivalry among Muslim schools in the state has lived up to expectation as many talents have been discovered through it.
“I’m happy that the competition which began on a small scale five years ago has attracted many schools and we hope future editions will be more glamorous.
Prince Atiba while commending the participants for exhibiting good spirit of sportsmanship throughout the duration of the tournament, charged other schools that has not identified with the competition to do so.
