About 700 athletes drawn from various states of the Federation hsave indicated interest to participate in the second edition of the Top Sprinters Athletics Meet slated to hold this weekend at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.
Disclosing this to NNSports at an interactive section to ushered in the championship, Chief Executive Officer of Making of Champions, organizers of the event, Bambo Akano hinted that the championship is being organized to discover young talents who will be nurtured as potential medalists for the country at the Olympics.
He stressed that the meet will feature athletes of all categories and follow by the Lagos relays just as he stated that top Nigerian athletes are expected to grace the occasion.
According to him, this is the second edition and as a result of the success recorded during the maiden edition last year.
“Our plan to nurture young talents is already yielding result because two athletes discovered in the maiden edition; Jerry Jakpa and Joy Udo- Gabriel are already enjoying scholarships which enabled them to combine education with their athletics career at the University of Lagos and Port Harcourt respectively courtesy of Arco Group and we hope to discover more talents in this edition.
“This year’s edition will also see great Nigerian athletes like Deji Aliu, Uche Emedolu and others running in the Masters category “, He expressed.
In his reaction Chairman Lagos State Sports Commission, Deji Tinubu has lauded the organizers for the initiative saying that the meet is capable of producing great athletes for the country in future.
