KTSG flags off College Green Project

Katsina State Governor, Alhaji Aminu Bello Masari flagged off the “College Green Project at Yusuf Bala Usman College of Legal and General Studies” Daura.
Speaking at the occasion, Governor Aminu Bello Masari described the College Green Project as part of the visionary leadership qualities of the current Provost of the College, Professor Sa’adiya Sani Daura.
The Governor described as worrisome the loss of five kilometers to desertification annually and called for change of attitude from the people to salvage the environment from further degradation.
He requested the federal Ministry of Environment to drill a productive borehole at the College Orchard to ensure its sustainability.
In a welcome address, the Provost of the College Professor Sa’adiya Sani Daura spoke extensively on the green project, its benefit and economic potentials.
According to her, the Green project would provide jobs to about three hundred people with the ten thousand seedlings of eucalyptus to be planted.
There were other goodwill messages from representatives of Minister of Environment, the Chairman COHEADS, Dr. Garba Shehu as well as Vice Chancellors of Bayero University Kano, Alqalam University, Umaru Musa Yar’adua University, Federal University, Dutsinma and the North-West University who all expressed support to the success of the College Green Project initiated by the Yusuf Bala Usman College of Legal and General Studies.
Meanwhile, the Director General of National Agency for the Great Green Wall Project, Mallam Goni Ahmed has described the flagging off of the college Green project of Yusuf Bala Usman College of Legal and General Studies, as timely.
He also said the initiative should be commended, encouraged and emulated by other institutions of higher learning.
In a keynote address, the Director General who spoke through a Director in the Agency said the event provides an opportunity for the Agency to further sensitize the populace on the need to protect their environment.
He congratulated the management of the college for the effort and announced the Agency’s donation of three thousand fruit tree seedlings in support of the development of the college orchard.
Mallam Goni Ahmed said the Agency has made interventions in Daura Emirate with the establishment of five kilometer shelter belt and a borehole each in Bojo, Ganga, Makasauro, Shadambu, Babban Mutum, Achakwale, Bagena, Dadin Sarki, Kokutuko, and Tadi.
In a Good will message, the Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu who was represented by a Director with Federal College of Education, Katsina attributed desertification to overgrazing and indiscriminate felling of trees.
Mallam Adamu Adamu was happy that the Great Green Wall Project was being implemented in eleven States including Katsina with thirty four local governments as beneficiaries.
Highlight of the occasion was planting of trees by the Governor, his deputy, the secretary to the government, the Emir of Daura and other dignitaries for the take off of the project.
In a related development, Governor Aminu Bello Masari also inspected the total renovation of Daura Public Library. He was also at General Hospital Daura to assess the ongoing upgrade and rehabilitation of the Hospital.
