KTHA Impeaches Speaker, Elects New One

Speaker of the Katsina State House of Assembly Alhaji Sabi’u Aliyu Muduru has been impeached following a vote of no confidence passed on him by 23 out of 34 lawmakers.
Consequently, a member representing Kusada constituency Alhaji Abubakar Yahaya has been elected as the new Speaker.
The new Speaker Alhaji Abubakar Kusada was immediately sworn-in by the Acting Clerk of the Assembly Alhaji Yusuf Jibrin, and promised to maintain transparent leadership in his new position.
He announced the dissolution of all leadership of the committees in the House except that of appropriation.
Alhaji Kusada solicited for the support and cooperation of the entire members in achieving the set objective.
The new Speaker who was formally the Chairman Works and Housing Committee of the House also promised to sustain the existing cordial relationship between the legislature and executive arm of government.
Abubakar who also identified change of leadership as a usual thing, prayed to Almighty God to give him more wisdom and courage in administering justice in his leadership.
He later adjourned the sitting of the house till Monday the 20th of February, 2017.
Earlier, the Majority Leader of the House, Alhaji Hambali Faruk representing Katsina constituency who moved for the impeachment, while given chance to present matter of urgent public importance, said 23 out of 34 lawmakers signed the Vote of no Confidence passed on the floor of the House.
He then announced the nomination of Deputy Speaker Alhaji Shehu Dalhatu Tafoki to act as the Speaker to conduct the election of the new speaker.
New Nigerian gathered that more security personnel were draftedtot the main gate and the surroundings of the House to maintain law and order prior to the impeachment.
