A gubernatorial aspirant under the auspices of the People Democratic Party (PDP) in Kebbi State and the immediate past Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Kaduna Electric, Engr. Garba Haruna, Garkuwan Kabi has pledged to explore and utilise the abundant natural resources in the State for the benefit of all the people.
Engr. Garba Haruna made the pledge today in Birnin Kebbi when he formally presented himself to the State leadership of the Party.
He said the recent statistics released by the National Bureau of Statistics indicated that Kebbi State is endowed with many natural resources in large quantity, but unfortunately, the State remain one of the poorest in the Country.
He promised to reverse the trend by transformer the agricultural sector and and channelling the abundant energy in the large youth population to productive ventures.
“My dear compatriots, there is no gain saying the fact that our State is endowed with abundant human and material resources which have largely remained either unharnessed or under utilised.
The task before us is to put in place policy framework(s) that will bring out the best out of our people and ensure more efficiency in management of the State resources for the greater benefit of all”, he said.
On security, Engr. Garba Haruna urged the drivers of the security architecture to bring traditional leaders and all stakeholders on board to create an intelligence driven security system that guarantee effective protection of lives and valuable assets of the citizens.
According to him, if elected as Governor of the State, he shall lead a team that “shall redefine leadership by putting the people first”.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Kebbi State Chairman of the People Democratic Party, Alhaji Usman Bello Suru described Engr. Garba Haruna as a quintessential leader and a great asset not only to the People Democratic Party but to Kebbi State as a whole.
He contended that the state stands to greatly benefit from the deep knowledge, experience and large network of partners of Engr. Garba Haruna and promised to mobilise the entire membership of the Party to support his candidature.
Alhaji Usman Suru expressed confidence in the ability of the aspirant and the PDP to provide the state with the much needed development driven leadership.
