KDSG urged to improve personnel, pay of Physiotherapists in the State


The need for the Kaduna State Government to declare a state of emergency on the department of physiotherapy for better service to the people in the state has been emphasized.
The National President of Nigeria Society of physiotherapy Dr. Tawo Oyewumi made the call during the 56th annual scientific conference and general meeting held in Kaduna saying the state need to to have over 1500 physiotherapist, but have very few personnels that do not serve the generality of the state.
According to him, the state government needs to upgrade in the area of training of personnel from diploma to degree level in Ahmadu Bello University and the State University in order to ensure a qualitative physiotherapy services in the state.
He added that the 56th annual conference is organized yearly to educate their personnel more on the activities as well as work out ways to move the profession forward.
The President noted that Nigerians deserved to have the best in the area of healthcare delivery hence, the need for government to give the health sector the desired attention it need.
In his welcome address, the chairman, Nigeria Society of
Physiotherapy, Kaduna State chapter, Dr. Stephen Obajuluwa said Kaduna State have only seven physiotherapy personnels all stationed in Barau Dikko Specialist Hospital which do not cater for the need of the 23 local Government councils.
According to him, physiotherapy profession need a serious attention in order to get effective service delivery.
He said the annual conference was held in Kaduna State in order to create awareness on the existence of the physiotherapy personnels as well as discuss on the ways to ensure the state government improves the take home package of their personnel in the State.
He however appealed to Kaduna State government to as a matter of necessity, introduce degree programme in physiotherapy in the State University and Ahmadu Bello University and, increase the number of physiotherapy personnels and station them in all the local government councils of state as well as improve their take home pay.
