Katsina State Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the provision of a community based package of nutrition service for women and children in the state.

Dr. Umar Bindawa, the state’s Project Coordinator of Accelerating Nutrition Results in Nigerian Project (ANRIN), disclosed this during a courtesy visit to the Emir of Katsina,   Alhaji Abdulmumini Kabir-Usman, said the aim was to improve the healthcare of women and children.

According to him, the project was aimed at addressing malnutrition among children and other related challenges for pregnant and nursing mothers.

He explained that through the project, women and children would be reached at home and provided with the needed assistance, particularly in the area of malnutrition.

Vitamin A for under-5 children, iron folic acid for pregnant and nursing mothers, and also enlightenment for the women on exclusive breastfeeding would be provided.

He further called for more concerted efforts from all stakeholders to achieve the set objectives of the project in the state, especially by cooperating with their officials.

According to Bindawa, the one year contract for the provision of nutrition package was between the state unit of ANRIN and Africa Youth Growth Foundation (AYGF)

Responding, the Emir commended the effort, and assured them of all the necessary support to achieve the set objectives of the project across the state.

According to him, the objectives of the project can only be achieved if traditional and community leaders were involved in the exercise.

He called on the state government to provide public hospitals with all the necessary equipment, saying they are lacking the required facilities.
