Katsina gets multi million naira drugs from DFID

Drugs and consumables worth 76 million naira have been presented to Katsina State Government by Neonatal and Child Health (MNCH) of the Department for International Development (DFID) for distribution to Hospitals and Primary Health Centres across the State.
Speaking at the presentation of the drugs by the National Co-ordinator  of MNCH of the DFID Dr. Salma Anas Kolo, Governor Aminu Bello Masari said training and capacity building would be conducted for health personnels to enable them manage the drugs at hospitals and Primary Health Centres in the State.
Governor Masari assured the state commitment to ensure success of all the programmes being supported by the development partners.
Masari noted that provision of manpower was more critical sometimes than the supply of drugs and advised the DFID to look at the issues of ownership, diagnostic centres and creating awareness to husbands to allow their wives to attend health facilities as well as improved services of traditional birth attendants.
The State Commissioner for Health, Hajiya Mariya Bala Usman said 200 Primary Health Centres would benefit from the gesture.
The National Co-ordinator of the MNCH, Dr. Salma Anas Kolo appreciated the open door policy of Governor Aminu Bello Masari’s administration which attracted various development partners to come to the aid of the state on health and other matters.
Dr. Anas Kolo stressed the need for the establishment of a sustainable finace system to gurantee the supply of drugs and other facilities as well as the setting up of drugs management agency among other issues.
In a good will message, the regional co-ordinator of DFID United Kingdom, represented by Dr. Ishaku Alhassan said the department is giving support on women health, UNICEF, Save the Children and Girl child Education Development.
