Kogi State College of Agriculture Provost, Dr. Akin Oloniruba has revealed that the earlier postponed Nigeria Colleges of Agriculture and Related Disciplines Games has put his institution in an advantaged position to host the most memorable games in the history of the championship.
In a telephone chart with New Nigerian Sports, Oloniruba hinted that the shift in date from the earlier scheduled date of October 10- 20th and now to November 19- December 1 by the National Committee of Heads of Colleges of Agriculture and other games discipline has enabled the college to put proper logistics in place so as to host a hitch- free tournament.
“We were initially disappointed by the last minute postponement but it has turned out to be a blessing in disguise as it has enabled the institution’s management put in place all the necessary facilities required to host the most memorable tournament since the history of the competition” he explained.
Speaking in the same vein, National President of NICARD, Alhaji Mohammed Mailafia explained that the postponement was timely as it enabled the national executive to properly carry out online screening of athletes just as he promised to stage a hitch- free tournament.
“For instance, we have put in place modalities that will ensure only eligible athletes participate in the championship. The postponement also enabled us carry out online screening of athletes to check the use of mercenaries.
Secretary General of the body, Sam Okereke said that arrival of athletes has been fixed for November 19 while November 20-21 will be for accreditation just as he explained that the opening ceremony will be on November 22 with the closing ceremony coming up on December 1.
Meanwhile, the games media coordinator, Pastor Faith Udochukwu Emmanuel has stated that the games will be exciting as all arrangements are in top gear with some corporate organizations to facilitate the live performance of popular artists at both the opening and closing ceremonies.
