Katagum Emirate In Bauchi Gets New Emir, Umar Faruk

Governor Mohammed Abubakar of Bauchi State has approved the appointment of a new Emir of Katagum, Alhaji Umar Faruk Muhammad. Aged 60 years.
Faruk succeeds his father, Muhammad Kabir Umar who passed away on December 9, 2017.

The new Emir of Katagum, Alhaji Umar Faruk Muhammad was born at Azare, headquarters of Katagum Local Government Area on 25th April, 1957.
He was enrolled into primary school in 1963 – 1969 thereafter proceeded to Government Secondary School, Azare, now Government College 1969 – 1974.
          
Alhaji Umar Faruk Muhammad pursued his basic university education in 1974 and proceeded to Bayero University Kano (BUK) 1977 – 1981 where he obtained his bachelor’s degree in History and had his national service (NYSC) in Kwara state.

Faruk took appointment with the Bauchi state government in 1982 where he served in various administrative capacities before he moved to federal services in 1992 where he also worked at different MDAs and subsequently rose to the position of permanent secretary before his retirement.

While in the federal service, the new emir was appointed the district head of Shira in 1993, the traditional title he held till his appointment as the new emir of Katagum on Friday 15, 2017.

Responding over the appointment, the new Emir of Katagum promised to carry a long all members of the Katagum royal family as brothers and sisters and pledged to uphold the virtues of the institution by following the footsteps of his forefathers.

Also speaking on the appointment, a former SGF, Mahmud Yayale Ahmed described the new emir, Umar Faruk Muhammad as a disciplined, honest and dedicated person whom, he said, will uphold the virtues of the traditional institution.
