General Manager, Kaduna State Traffic and Environmental Law Enforcement Agency (KASTELEA), Colonel Ahmed Zubairu (rtd), said the agency will partner with the media in the sensitization of the general public for proper understanding of its activities in the state.
He stated this Wednesday in a joint press conference with Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), in preparatory to the sensitization rally/lecture on the operations of the agency and anti-corruption orientation for the agency Marshals and the general public at the weekend in Kaduna.
The sensitization which has the theme; ‘KASTELEA: Overcoming the corrupt temptation in the cause of action’ organized by the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kaduna state council in conjuction with ICPC and YDMRI.
According to the General Manager, “Without journalists, it is like throwing a sand inside the sea, therefore, partnering with you will go a long way in sensitizing members of the public in the state to knowing our activities.
“As a new born baby, partnering with the media in the discharge of our duties particularly in sensitization, our struggle will be a success and all our effort will be acknowledged and appreciated by the society.
“We are out to ensure orderliness and maintain traffic in the state, so people should not see us as their enemies, we are only going to be partners in progress,” he stated.
According to him, “lf laws are not been obeyed, there will be epidemic and this at the end would cost the state government a lot of money. We want to ensure free flow of traffic and clean environment in the state.”
Towards this end, he called on the citizens of the state to desist from indiscriminate dumping of refuse especially in drainages but to ensure that people always keep their environments clean.
While describing streets hawking as a menace, the General Managerial reiterated, “We are not against your business but it must be done in a safe place not on the road.”
Also in his remarks, the Sector Commandant, FRSC, Mr. Owomiha Francis Udoma who also commended the media effort in terms of sensitizing road users, also noted that speed killed more than Malaria and Diabetes.
“Majority of car owners don’t have license and most of the cars are with fairly used tyres that have since expired thereby causing accidents on the roads occasioned by tyre bust.
He emphasised that life has no duplicate, hence the need for all road users to observe rules of the road, ensure their vehicles are always in proper shape and road worthy.
Earlier in his opening remarks, the Council chairman, Comrade Garba Muhammad, expressed the readiness of the council to collaborate with all agencies whose activities is geared towards growth and development of the nation.
He assured KASTELEA and FRSC that the media would do all within its powers to ensure that their activities are well publicised.
