Kano/Jigawa Customs Intercepts 3, 712 Donkey Skin, Foreign Rice, Others, Generates 10bn

The Kano/Jigawa Customs Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service have intercepted 3,712, donkey skin worth  416,382,278M  and others prohibited items.
While giving the breakdown of the seizures made within the period under review, the Customs Area Controller, Comptroller MA  Umar said the seizures included;  1, 031 50kg bags of foreign parboiled rice, 3712 donkey skin, 131 units of used secondhand clothing among the items.
Other items include; 151 Cartons of Foreign Spaghetti & Macaroni, 91 and 1,237 foreign mayor Soap, 6 foreign rice 25kg and 3 bags of donkey penis.

According to him ” The Command is doing well and was able to collect 10.1 Billion as revenue into the cofers of the federal government.  In addition our activities at the free trade zone has improved”
“The Command will continue to put in place necessary measures to improve on the collection so far with the support from other units of the Command” he said.
He noted that the  enforcement unit of the Command was re-invigorated to brace up for the new anti-Smuggling operations.
Comptroller Umar, explained that the Command will maintain the success through synergy vowed to continued to dialogue, engage and educate the local business community on the security, health and economic implications of smuggling while discharging the statutory responsibilities of enforcing compliance  with government fiscal policies. 
He said the Command  will continuously engage in sensitising the public on the need to clear their goods through the inland terminals.

The Comptroller attributed the Unit’s successes to increased patriotism from members of the public who now voluntarily volunteer information to the Unit and an increased motivation from the CGC and his NCS Management through provision of relevant work tools.
He  therefore, warned importers to desist from importing goods, which have negative impact on the nation’s economy and the lives of Nigerians
