The Hausa movie industry popularly known as Kannywood and its big brother Nollywood are feeling the stinging bites of the present economic recession presently ravaging Nigeria’s economy.

Top Kannywood and Nollywood actor, Ali Nuhu confirmed this while speaking to newsmen after The Love Laugh Foundation’s Charity Fundraising Fashion Show held at the Ceremonial Canopies and Events Centre, Ungwar Rimi, Kaduna on Saturday night.
He said that the movie industry cannot be isolated from the problem that has affected virtually all sectors of the economy.
Ali Nuhu  who is also referred to as the King of Kannywood said that the industry which was growing rapidly has been slowed down by the economic downturn, a development that has affected the number of movies produced drastically.

On the importance of engaging in charity, he said that personally, he has sponsored several less privileged people through the payment of their school fees.

“I have also worked with several NGOs which include ActionAid in touching the lives of the less privileged in the society,” he added.

The talented movie producer when asked which message he wants to pass across to his fans, said that they should always know that he loves all of them and would continue to do things they would always be proud of.
Also in an interview, top Kannywood movie director,  Tahir Ibrahim Tahir condemned those that called for the cancellation of the Kano Film Village.

Tahir said they were ignorant of modern trends and should visit Islamic countries before voicing out on something they were not knowledgeable about.

“Go to Saudi Arabia, Iran and other big Islamic countries, you will see film villages. I wonder why they criticized same here,” he said.
He argued that with a film village, it would make movies produced there cheaper in cost of production and more professional.
