Kaduna; verification of workers to continue as 5,000 are still owed salaries
By; ABDULL-AZEEZ AHMED KADIR, Kaduna.

Kaduna State Government has said the verification of workers is going to be a continues exercise until it is sure of the actual number of its workforce as well the amount of its monthly salary bill, just as it said about 5,000 workers were yet to get between one to three months salaries due to the past verification exercise.

Rising from its weekly State Executive Council Meeting presided by the Governor, Mallam Nasir Ahmad El-rufai, the government said it is not owing workers in the state salary as being insinuated except for the month of October which it has concluded plans to start paying within the week.

Briefing newsmen after the council meeting, the Permanent Secretary, Office of the Head of Service, Mallam Lukman Musa said the about 5,000 workers out of 100,000 of the state workforce who were yet to get their salaries, are mostly Local Government Staff who had one problem or the other during the last sets of verification exercise.

“The delay in the payment of October Salary is as a result of the decentralised verification. Even that, the October salary would be paid within this week” he stressed.
He however claimed that the money to pay them is ready, but the government wants to ensure they are properly verified and cleared. The moment that is done, they would be paid the backlog immediately he assured.

“Efforts are on to ensure that workers who have genuine reason are finally screened and paid their salaries” he reiterated. But explaining further, Lukman said all the Local Councils were given verification forms for all their staff and “subsequently, those who need no further verification would be sorted out and paid their salary. And those who require another verification would be verified and paid their salary”.

He asserted that the problems encountered resulting in some workers not getting their salary for between one to three months arose from the bank that handled the payment. As a result, the governor had given a directive for a change of bank he stressed.
