By; Samson Yaki, Kaduna.
A Bill for a law to provide for the development and regulation of the Kaduna State water sector, the establishment of the state water corporation, the state rural water supply and sanitation agency, the state water services regulatory commission, role of government, private sector participation and other matters connected therewith has scaled through second reading in the State House of Assembly.
Leading the debate on the floor of the house, the majority leader Haruna Inuwa said the bill which emanates from the executive arm is aimed at reforming the water sector in the state.
Other members who contributed to the debate said the bill is a welcomed idea in view of the fact that the people of Kaduna State are going through hardship before getting portable water.
They also emphasized that the committees to work on the bill should do everything possible  to get to the root of the matter including the financial challenges the corporation is facing at the moment which poses serious threats in the payment of staff salary.
In order to improve the sanitary condition of the state, the Legislators emphasized the need to have a conventional sewage disposal scheme across the state to enhance a good hygiene among the people.
The bill has been referred to the committees on water resources, finance, judiciary and environment for proper adjudication and report back to the house on the 16th of February 2016.
