Kaduna State Government has expressed shock over the demise of Veteran journalist, Walter Uba who passed away on Friday, April 21, 2017.
Governor Nasir el–Rufai stated this when he paid a condolence visit to Kaduna State Secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) on Tuesday.
Governor el–Rufai described the late Walter Uba as a journalist that has contributed immensely to the development of Kaduna State.
According to him, the late veteran journalist will be remembered as the former spokesman of the Kaduna State House of Assembly.
El-Rufai who was represented by his Senior Assistant on Media, Samuel Aruwan, described the late Walter Uba as a father to many journalists whom he has mentored in the profession.
“It is good coming here, and it is not also good that I’m here on a condolence visit but then death as we all know is inevitable. All of us alive will one day taste death someday. It’s just that we don’t know how, when and what will ultimately lead to our dead.
“Well, I’m here on behalf of the Government and people of Kaduna State to extend our heartfelt condolences to the immediate family of our father and colleague, Walter Uba, the NUJ and all the media family in Kaduna over his dead.
“As we all know Walter Uba as a journalist has played a significant role in Kaduna State. At some point in time he had worked in Kaduna State House of Assembly as Spokesperson of the Assembly. And you know in the era that he worked as spokesperson, it was a very challenging period as well. Lack of advancement in science and technology, where journalists had to send their stories via other means unlike what is obtainable today where at our fingertips you can communicate from where you are to the four corners of the world.
“But again ours too is coming with a very serious challenge because of diversity. Because of so many interests that are coming into play and so on. But then we’re happy and satisfied that at least late Walter Uba was a family man.
“As part of our contribution, we will give our little token to the bereaved family and we’ll also like to assure them that they will never be left on their own because the late Walter Uba contributed immensely to the development of Kaduna State,” he said.
