Kaduna sets to improve health care system

In a bid to reduce maternal mortality and improve health care system generally, the Kaduna state Commissioner for Health Professor Jonathan Nok revealed that concerted efforts are currently been made to save
millions of lives in Kaduna State annually.
Speaking at a press briefing in Kaduna shortly before the
commencement of the 11th Special State Council on Health meeting, the Commissioner who also represented the State Governor Mallam Nasir El-Rufai said “the government has resuscitated Haemodialysis services in Barau Dikko Specialist Hospital with two new dialysis machines installed, procurements of dialysis consumables worth 31million naira, delivery of four haemodialysis services to General Hospital  Kafanchan and Hajiya Gambo Sawaba General Hospital Zaria’.
‘’The government has signed MOU with PIJ ventures for supply of Dialysis machines and consumables, over 800staff of the ministry have been interviewed for promotion, distribution of laboratory reagents and equipment, our secondary facilities worth 206million naira’’ he added.
On the poor state of some of the latrines in Barau Dikko, the commissioner said there are companies responsible for maintaining them. He also maintained that accreditation of the Barau Dikko Specialist teaching hospital will produce 100 Doctors on  an annual basis.
Meanwhile patients of the Barau Dikko Specialists Hospital, General Hospital Doka and Gwanma Awwan General Hospital last week criticized the Government for not making good provision and adequate doctors, making the waiting time for patients very stressful.
Speaking with newsmen on behalf of some patients at Barau Dikko, Amina Salisu a patient in anti-natal clinic said ‘’the doctors and nurses are not enough usually we come here as early as eight in the morning. But most time before doctors see us, it will be around three o’clock in the afternoon and also our toilets are very bad. We know the hospital is trying but they can do more, most especially in the area of waiting time, latrines and information sharing.’’
