Strong indications have emerged that the 45 Kilometer streets light project by Kaduna State Government is alleviating security challengess across major streets within Kaduna metropolis.
Speaking with New Nigerian, residents of Ugwan Maigero, Bulus Yunana, Abraham Yaki and Godiya Adamu lauded the concerted efforts of government to install solar security street lights.
Yaki and Yunana said that, ‘”the roads in this place use to be as dark as a thick forest in the night and once it is 10pm people usually become scared of even going out because some bad boys use to take advantage of the dark roads to snatch handbags, phones, money and sometimes even machines were stolen along the dark streets. But now you can see for yourself, this is almost 10pm and we are talking with you here, so it is really a thing of joy’’.
Similarly, Peter Akpan, an automobile engineer opposite Mobile Police Barrack, Barnawa junction also hailed the initiative. In his words ‘’I tell you people use to steal some things in this mechanic site especially at night even though we are opposite Mobile Police. Most times they do not know because of darkness but now one cannot try that here because once its 7pm the Solar Street lights goes on automatically taking away the cover for all these petty thieves around because everybody, even passersby can watch who is doing what’’.
At Narayi Highcost, Bayan Dutse, Katuru and Raba roads in Ugwan Rimi area, similar stories were told on the significance of the lights in the area paving way for smooth business transactions
At Sultan road before the cross junction, petty traders who were still selling after 10pm gave thanks to the Kaduna State Government for the projects saying it gives them the courage to stay longer outside transacting business.
Abdulmalik Awalu who sells rechargeable lanterns and Mansir Gidado who deals in USB cables and phone chargers at the cross junction said “APC represents truth and light, that is why the government is committed to opening new roads and installation of solar street lights and it has help our business’’.
Meanwhile Mansir Gidado Ningir who spoke in Hausa said even though food stuff are expensive, the streets lights gives them the opportunity to stay out longer and earn more money for themselves. Other residents and petty traders at Korau and Kufana roads also hailed Government’s effort towards lighting Kaduna.
