The Religious Bill being sponsored by the Kaduna State Government is an unnecessary distraction that should not have even come up in the first place, Chairman, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Kaduna State Chapter, Bishop George Dodo has observed.
Bishop Dodo stated this while fielding questions from newsmen, on the sidelines of the Nigerian Christian Pilgrims Welfare Commission (NCPC) Day of Prayers for the Government of Kaduna State and launching of pilot scheme of the Win A Trip To Israel (WATTI) Promo, held at the 2nd ECWA Church, Ibrahim Taiwo Road, Kaduna on Saturday.
He argued that already, there were existing laws in the penal code that the government should have turned to in its bid at addressing issues, instead of seeking to create new laws.
“Matters of religion should be left to professionals to handle. The way religious leaders would not go into addressing political matters, politicians should allow religious leaders handle their issues,” he said, while commenting on the controversial bill.
“What Nigeria needs now are not new laws, but ensuring that existing laws are made to be active,” he submitted.
Commenting on the WATTI Promo, he described it as a good scheme that would be improved upon as time goes by.
He said government has several challenges it is contending with and should not be mandated to sponsor Christians to Israel, hence the promo that would afford opportunities to Nigerians who are less privileged.
He described the prayer session and the launching of WATTI as a huge success, thanking God for the outcome.
