In view of its strategic position as the number one Polo Club in the country, the Kaduna Polo Club has continued to attract more financial support weeks after raking in N29.5M at the official cheque presentation for the 2016 Kaduna International Polo Tournament.
This was disclosed to newsmen on Monday night by the Tournament Manager, Honourable Ibrahim Kontagora while fielding questions at the Ahmadu Yakubu Polo Club House, Murtala Square, Kaduna.
He explained that the support they are receiving is overwhelming, though expected.
“If you remember during the cheque presentation I mentioned that we were still expecting from First Bank, Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC) and others. We have raised N2m from the traditional sponsors of the Georgian Cup, First Bank Nigeria Plc. We also got N.5M from Jago Milk, Adamawa State Governor’s Bindow Social Movement gave us N1M, we got N1M for Northern Governors Cup,” he disclosed.
He said even as the tournament continues, they are still expecting more contributions, even though he failed to mention those that they are expecting from.
Honourable Kontagora explained that First Bank apologised for not putting in more funds to the Georgian Cup, as a result of late notice given to them, but added that they were still expecting some more funds from First Bank Abuja’s office.
“First Bank has been sponsoring this trophy for almost 100 years. They have been with us from the very first edition and be next year we will be celebrating 100 years of excellent polo at the club,” he added.
