Kaduna NUJ applauds KDSG for support, cautions members against unethical practice, imortalises Tanko Ayuba

Kaduna State Council of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has applauded the State government over support to the activities of the council while cautioning members over unethical practices in the course of performing their official duties.

This resolution was arrived at by the Council after its Congress held on Wednesday, presided over by the Chairman, Comrade Garba Muhammad.

The council was particular about the support given to it by the government that led to the tremendous success recorded on the public enlightenment, rally and lecture on the activities of Kaduna State Traffic and Environmental Law Enforcement Agency (KASTELEA).

Governor Nasir Ahmad El-rufai was represented by the Genera Manager of the agency, Col. Zubair Ahmed (rtd) at the event.

The communique signed by the Council  Secretary Secretary Dauda Idris Doka said, such support and collaboration the Council noted would go a long way in educating, enlightening the public on policy formation and implementation of the state government and the need for the general public to own such government policies for sustainable development of the state.

The Congress also frowned at certain acts by members and warned them to eschew any unethical practice in the course of carrying out their functions as members of the fourth estate of the realm.

The council would not hesitate to wield the big stick by enforcing all the necessary punitive disciplinary measures as contained in the constitution of the NUJ, the Congress stressed.

Practicing journalists in Kaduna are also advised to register and validate their membership with the union.

Those without minimum qualification are also advised to come forward and register with the International Institute of Journalism (IIJ) to upgrade their qualification, get the minimum qualification and acquire the necessary knowledge.

The Congress also cautioned members to stop the use of social media to settle professional scores and or taking internal issues that ordinarily should be resolved utilising avenues within the Council.

The Congress also ratified the resolution to name the Council Secretariat after the late General Tanko Ayuba as a means of immortalising him.

It is in recognition of his contribution to the development of the Council during his tenure as the military governor of the state.

The late Ayuba, the Congress noted was responsible for the relocation of the Council Secretariat from its temporary place opposite New Nigerian Newspapers, Ahmadu Bello Way to the present one at Muhammadu Bulgari Way (former Waff Road) after approving the allocation of the land.

Congress ratified the resolution to name the Council Secretariat after the late Mr Ayuba as part of its annual press week activities in November, 2016.

The Congress also resolved that all former Governors and the incumbent of the state be informed in writing, of the decision, as well as the late family in Zuru, Kebbi State and in Lagos.

It would also be recalled that the late Sir Patrick Ibrahim Yakowa approved the Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) for the NUJ secretariat land which is yet to be issued almost four years after his demise.
