Kaduna State Legislators have expressed their displeasure over 71 abandoned road projects out of the 160 awarded‎ by the Kaduna State Government.
The Kaduna State Government had in December, 2015 awarded contracts for the construction of about 160 roads within six months in Kaduna metropolis to six different contractors.
The contracts, expected to be completed between June abd September 2016.
Concerned by this, The House of Assembly invited the Commissioner of Works, Housing and Transport to give more explanation on the awarded contracts, having received a report from its committee on Works, Housing and Transport of some road projects in the Metropolis.
The Lawmakers discovered in the report that out of the 64 road contracts awarded to Gilmore Engineering Construction Nigeria Ltd in Barnawa District, only 19 roads were under Construction.
Similarly, it was also discovered that feasibility studies were not carried out before the contracts were awarded and that the consultants attached to the contractors have not provided the actual technical drawings of the roads even after the consultants have received their initial payments.
Dantata and Sawoe Nig. Ltd, the company responsible for the construction of roads in Doka District only embarked on less than 10 roads out of 94 awarded.
Expected date for the completion of these road works is August, 2016 as pressure from the State House of Assembly will hasten their speedy completion.
