Kaduna intra-city BRT lane, govt reviews contract, saves N1.1B

The Kawo-Lugard Hall Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) lane expansion in Kaduna metropolis awarded by the Mukhtar Ramalan Yero administration has been reviewed by the current regime under Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai and saved over 1.1 billion naira in the process.
The state government said this was arrived at after it considered that by the scope and quantity of the job, the contract sum of 3.685 billion naira inititally was on the high side.
The over 1.1 billion naira saved due to the review is 32 per cent of the total sum of the contract the state government claimed.
Speaking with journalists today after the State Weekly Executive Council Meeting, the Commissioner for Works, Usman Mahmud Hassan said the reviewd sum now stands at 2.54 billion naira.
With this development, the sum of 1.181 billion naira has been saved leaving the state government with outstanding valuation of 463 million naira since the Yero administration paid a mobilization fee of 921. 354 million naira which was 25 per cent of the total sum then.
Asked of the completion period of the project, Hassan said the contractor would submit implemnentation schedule to the government to be agreed on by both sides.
It would be recalled that the Yero led administration awarded the contract for the expansion of the Kawo – Ahmadu Bello Way –Command Junction cutting across three Local Government Areas of Kaduna North, South and Chikun. The BRT expansion was then divided into three phases of Kawo – Lugard Hall Roundabout, Lugard Hall – Station roundabout and Station – Command Junction.
