Kaduna Guber; APGA appeals election tribunal verdict

Irked by the judgment of the governorship election tribunal in Kaduna State that upheld the election of Governor Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai, the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate in the 2015 governorship election in the state, Mr. Polycarp Danladi Gankon, has filed an appeal at the Kaduna Appeal Court challenging its judgment.
Briefing newsmen in Kaduna, the APGA candidate said, “We are not comfortable with the judgment of the election tribunal as it is critical to the polity and politics of the people of Kaduna State. “What we saw was judgment and not justice. We observed that the whole procedure from the beginning to the end has a big question mark.”
After due consultations with many interest groups in the state, he said, there was the strong need to challenge the judgment, hence the filing of the case at the Court of Appeal in order to seek for redress.
He added that “what we are doing today is to tell the whole world that we have gone to the next step to demand for what we strongly believe was not given to us. All we are after is for justice to be clearly spelled out on the case for the people of Kaduna State.”
While acknowledging the fact that a lot of issues would be revealed at the Court of Appeal, he wandered why with over 4,000 polling units out of the 5,000 polling units in the state, with lots of alterations on the certificate of election in each polling unit, he said, “APGA had no choice than to listen to the general out cry of the people of the state to demand from what they believe was taken away from them.”
Mr. Gankon thanked the good people of Kaduna State for their support and solidarity in ensuring justice prevail at the end of the struggle. He enjoined the people to remain steadfast, prayerful and law abiding while the case last assuring that justice would definitely be realized at the end of the day.
