Kaduna Female Students Appeal For Clean Water, Improved Security

Some students of Queen Amina College, Kaduna, on Friday appealed to the Kaduna State Government to increase access to clean water and other basic amenities in the school.

The students made the appeal when the state’s Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Malam Ja’afaru Sani visited the college to inspect the state of facilities in the school after its renovation.

The students also asked for increase in the quantity of food given to them as breakfast, lunch and dinner, as well as improve security to stop thieves from entering the schools to steal form them.

One of them, Vivian Adzento, SSI student, told the commissioner that the school needs additional boreholes, as the one serving the school was not enough given the huge student population in the school.

Fatima Ibrahim, also in SSI said, “The quantity of food given to us is very small. We want the quantity to be increased so that we will be filled and concentrate well.”

The students nonetheless commended their teachers and the school management for their dedication and quality of teaching to prepare them for future endeavours.

Responding, Sani explained that the essence of his visit was to find out what has been done and what needs to be improved to make the students comfortable.

He promised that all critical facilities, particularly water and security would be address in no distant time.

“Generally I am very happy with the school environment. I am equally delighted that the students scored the teachers and non teaching staff high.

“This was demonstrated, by a JSS I student, Lauretta Naricah who eloquently read a passage from a text book.

“I am particularly impressed that the presence of the principal did not deter them from telling us their mind. This shows that the students can effectively expressed themselves.

“This is a good sign of quality teaching and learning. So we will go back to the ministry and articulate what are required to address their concerns, “Sani said.

The commissioner said that the ongoing schools renovation and expansion across the state was designed to address deficit of facilities to provide conducive learning environment.

The commissioner also assured the state resolve to equip all school laboratories, and teachers welfare.

He equally directed that the names of all casual staff in the school to be compiled and forwarded to the ministry for consideration for permanent and pensionable appointment.
