Kaduna Electric Takes Energy Efficiency Campaign To Schools

The Management of Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company is to establish Energy Conservation Clubs in secondary schools across its franchise states of Kaduna, Kebbi, Sokoto and Zamfara.

The Team Lead, Media and Community Relations of the Company, Idris Muhammad who made the disclosure in a chat with pressmen on Friday, was optimistic that “the clubs will provide constructive and veritable platform to drive home the Company’s safe and efficient energy campaigns”.

He disclosed that the company shall use the clubs to inculcate energy efficiency culture in the minds of the young students and by extension, the entire society.

“We have almost the poorest energy efficiency and safety culture; The little energy available is being substantially wasted and hazardous and unsafe attitude are exhibited on daily basis; hence, we decided to change that culture by establishing energy clubs in secondary schools in our franchise area, where these young minds would be educated and guided on energy efficiency techniques, safe culture, causes and ways of averting domestic electrical accident, first aid and other sundry issues”, he asserted.

Mr. Idris Muhammad announced that ten secondary schools have been selected for the first phase of the programme and assured that the number shall increase with time. “The target is to have as many as 80-100 secondary schools across the four states”, he stated.

He disclosed that the choice of secondary schools is aimed at catching them young. “Imparting knowledge or idea in young minds is like casting a structure on stone, it remains there till eternity”.

He also revealed that the new initiative is in line with the social responsibility policy of the Company. “As a responsible corporate citizen, we have a duty to contribute in making our society a better place; we shall, through our corporate social responsibility projects, continue to invest human and material resources in areas that have direct and meaningful bearing on the society”, he concluded.
