Hosts Kaduna State volleyball teams dominated the maiden edition of the National Sports Commission (NSC) Northwest Zone/Engineer Musa Nimrod U-17 Volleyball Competition, which ended on Saturday at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium.
Kaduna’s male team flogged their opponents Sokoto State in threestraight sets having no mercy for the visitors 3-0 in the final match.
The female category trophy also went to Kaduna State U-17 team, whom also thrashed their opponents Queen Amina College in three straight sets 3-0.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, Northwest Zonal Coordinator, Alhaji Bode Durotoye disclosed that it would be an annual competition. He praised the sponsor, Engineer Musa Nimrod for the gesture, while calling on other board members of federations from the zone to emulate same.
Also speaking, Engineer Musa Nimrod who is representing  the Northwest Zone on the board of the Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF), said that he was impressed with the skills exhibited by the players.
“The game between Sokoto and Kaduna was fantastic. This goes a long way in showing that the clinic we held in August is already yielding results,” Nimrod, who is also the chairman of Nigeria Beach Volleyball, said.
Commenting on the disqualification of Zamfara State’s male team from the competition for coming along with some over aged players, he described it as a wakeup call for coaches to discover younger players from the grassroots.
