Kaduna Commissioner Says All Ongoing Education Projects Would Be Completed

Malam Ja’afaru Sani, the Kaduna State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, on Tuesday said that the ministry would complete all ongoing 2017 capital projects in the sector.
Sani gave the assurance when the Kaduna House of Assembly Committee on Education, led by its Chairman, Yusuf Dahiru, paid an oversight function to the ministry.
He said the ministry had designed procurement plans to achieve the completion of the projects, adding that the projects were being considered for approval by the appropriate offices.
According to him, capital projects will be rollout across the state in most public schools, hopefully by first week of March.
“The 2018 budget was tagged “Budget of Consolidation” for us to consolidate on our achievements so far.
“This means that we must ensure that all ongoing projects are completed before we award new ones.
“Most of the ongoing projects are between 60 to 80 percent completion, with a few that the contractors have not been mobilised to sites due one issue or the other.”
He said some of the ongoing projects were, school renovation, construction, furniture, uniforms, upgrade and other infrastructural development to ensure quality education delivery.
He also said that teacher training and retraining and capacity building were also given prominent attention with a view to maintaining excellence among public school teachers in the state.
Earlier, the committee chairman explained that the aim of their visit was to perform their constitutional oversight function to ensure allocation given to the sector was judiciously utilised.
He added that the visit would also create the needed synergy between the House and the ministry to move the education sector forward.
“We are happy with the performance of the ministry in terms of capital projects implementation, which is one of the best in the state, ”Dahiru said.
