Kaduna Catholic Church Holds Peace Walk Sports

Part of activities held during the Catholic Church Mando Peace Walk.
The first ‘Walk for Peace’ Sports Weekend organized by the parishioners of St Francis Catholic Church Mando in Igabi Local Government area of Kaduna state ended on a successful note at the church premises last Saturday.
 Tagged ‘Walk for Peace’, the parishioners led by the Parish priest Rev Fr David Anenke and his assistant Rev Fr Polycarp Kure
did a 10km walk from the church premises to Mando Round About and back to  the church.
Parishioners converged on the church premises as early as 7a.m from where they took off for the 10km ‘Walk for Peace’. Apart from the ‘Walk, other activities were aerobics, 5-aside and corridor football matches, ludo, chess, badminton and Scrabble. Highlight of the day’s events was the free medical check-up and administration.
Upon  their return from the’Walk, they were engaged in aerobics by an expert. Top of the sports events was the 5-aside football match between Parish priest Team versus Assistant Parish priest Team B which was officiated by Coach Jide Bodunde.
Before the match began, the Parish priest accompanied by his assistant as well as the Chairman Kaduna state Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) Isaiah Benjamin, performed the kickoff ceremony after the traditional introduction of the players of the two teams.
Speaking to the Press, the Parish priest said the occasion was ‘Walk for peace’ for peace to reign in the country. He said it was also organized for the fitness and wellness of the parishioners. Fr Anenke said the country needed peace more than anything else for development and progress of the country.
He said that health is wealth, noting  that it was also important for parishioners to participate in social activities like sports in addition to normal Masses and other religious activities.
Fr Anenke who expressed satisfaction with the turnout of parishioners for the event commended the participants and organisers, adding another of such event would be organised in the near future depending on availability of funds while more parishioners would be expected.
Parishioners who were in high spirit with excitement throughout the events expressed happiness and satisfaction commended the Parish priest, his assistant and the organizing committee while they look forward to the next edition before the end of the year.
